Now that I've gotten over the Fed losing...

I get to deliver my post tournament random ramble thing.... whatever.... and you seriously thought at I was going to skip the chance to be completely random... haha...ha.... ha.... wow, I think I need more caffeine right now... ANYWAY:

Man of the tournament
  • no, not Nadal. Fernando Verdasco! There was no way that anyone was pegging him to 1) make a semi final appearance and 2) give Nadal a run for his money. Way to go for Verdasco. I still don't like you very much - you killed Argentina's hopes of winning the Davis Cup - but at least you beat Murray on your way to making Rafa's life harder... yay?
Most disappointing guy of the tournament
  • I was going to say it was a tie between Djokovic and Murray but because everyone seemed to want to say Murray was going to win, I'll go with Murray. I'm not disappointed in the least but I"m sure somewhere someone is disappointed....
About that final...
  • All I'll say is that Roger is allergic to playing Rafa. It makes him nervous and he tightens up and loses his concentration.
He wasn't exactly jumping for joy...
  • No one was smiling when Rafa won that final. Federer broke down and Nadal looked liked he was extremely sorry for winning. Not a great way to celebrate your first grand slam win on hard courts....
Best match of the tournament
  • Nadal/Verdasco semi final. That was a match and a half! If only Verdasco hadn't double faulted at the end it would have been a lot better....
  • Mind you... Carla Suarrez Navarro's win over Venus Williams was good too...
Roddick hires a new coach, gets on a new training program, looks the best that he has in years and...
  • He still loses in straight sets to Federer in the semis. Poor Andy....
And that's how many matches that Nole has retired from in grand slams?
  • 4. Djokovic couldn't beat the heat and he retired against Roddick. So much for the defending champion....
Speaking of the heat...
  • Apparently the 40C temperatures for most of the tournament were the highest in a long time in Australia. Hard to relate when you're covered in almost two meters of snow and it's minus 15 out in Canada.
Where'd the Argentines go?
  • Nalbandian continues along his path of the biggest underachiever ever while Del Potro got mauled by Federer in a very embarrassing match.
No on ever said that the French were boring.....
  • Even if Monfils had to retire against Simon, he gave the crowds something to talk about when he kissed Simon afterwards.
  • Simon then lost in straight sets to Nadal who didn't kiss him.
  • And Tsonga got left out of the kissing stuff too when he lost to Verdasco. Which is fine by me.
One or two reasons to watch women's tennis
  • Carla Suarez Navarro was great to watch
  • As was Jelena Dokic's run through the tournament
One big reason not to watch it
  • Serena William's attitude bugs me
And the top seeds....
  • dropped like flies. It's amazing that Serena and Dinara Safina even made the finals....
