Listen up Habs fans....

I may be sick and tired of this slump that the Habs are on, but I'm even more sick and tired of this cloud of doom that seems to have settled on Habsville and all its inhabitants across the country. This cloud is of our own making so we have no one to blame but ourselves for this. You heard me. This is not the Habs fault that we're acting like this. This is OUR fault.

Look. This team was supposed to be in rebuilding mode only two years ago. We all know that a team can't rebuild in only two years. Heck, some teams can't rebuild in 40 years (right Leafs?!!!). I'm sure no one was acting like this two years ago. And if you were, you should be kicked. If this team was the defending champions and were playing like this, then yeah, I'd be freaking out completely. But they're not and they won't be anytime soon. This whole "the year" thing is just plain stupid and like I keep saying, it's killing this team. If the team hadn't finished in first in the conference last year and "the year" wasn't happening, would we really be all this gloomy? Would we? I dont' think so. We're sad and upset because it's "the year" and the team who had been doing very well last year, seems to be underperforming now. I get it, I get it. You do realize though, that we have a choice in how we decide to react to this? Look at the Sens fans. They're not getting that upset*, at least not like we are right now about our Habs. We have a choice in the matter on whether we're going to go and jump off a building because we think our team is failing miserably. I'm chosing not to be depressed by this. At least that's the plan.

Take a pill and just try to enjoy it, guys. At the end of the day (or early in the morning) it's still just a game. No one's going to die if the Habs win or lose a game. This team has potential and I believe Bob Gainey will make this team even better in the next few years. We need to be patient. And we need to be a little less doom-ish. My biggest hope is this team really will have a chance in the next few years as supposed to the next 10 years because we took a major step backwards this year because it's "the year". I don't see Gainey as a guy who would feel pressured into making certain silly decisions - like trading half this team for a certain someone in Tampa Bay - just because it's "the year". It's not our year this year, and we need to accept that without jumping off cliffs and ending up a gory mess. We need to trust that Gainey will make this team into a real contender in the future. Put it this way, when the Habs do win it, we're not going to remember this year as the year that failed miserably. We're going to remember the year we won it as the year that worked beautifully. Any past failings won't matter because we'll be holding that Stanley Cup and drowning in tears of happiness. So it may feel like the end of the world right now, but it's not. The Habs will win another Stanley Cup. Promise. It just won't be this year. So just relax, chill out with a large glass of whatever will knock you out for the next couple of months if you need to, and just keep telling yourself "there will be a 25th Stanley Cup... there will be a 25th Stanley Cup......."

*Oh fine. So they should be more upset considering how good they're team has been up until the second half of last year. My point is, they're not acting like Ragnarok has just arrived.......
