I was watching some of the Wings/Bruins game tonight. I missed a lot of it, but I did catch the last 5 minutes. The Wings were up 2-0. What had me actually watching the game was not so much because I was afraid that the Booins might score, but rather to watch the Wings play defense.
It was like watching a totally different league. In this league, players manage to control the puck in their own zone. In this league, players don't stand by and watch as the opposing team walks in and scores on their goalie.
It's a nice league and I wish the Habs could be in it. But nopers.
I'm too tired to complain too much about this game, but damnit, it was one of the worst I've seen by them this year. The defensive coverage is brutal. And it sucks because for the most part, Price played really well. He had some great stops. The team left him out to dry completely. Blergh.
Super Turtle-Pleky and Gio tried to make it close. Really. They did. Super Turtle-Pleky had a great goal to tie it up late in the third (only to have the D screw up and let in the game winner about a minute later).
Myeh....
I really want to see Sweden's U20 team play Concordia university on Thursday but it's my relative's birthday and I really should be present for it. Either way, I have a good excuse to miss what is probably going to be an embarrassing game for the Habs against the Booins. Booins haven't scored in two games and they'll be taking on a Habs squad that has given up what... 10 in the last two? Or 9? Whatever.
I hate the Booins. I hate this defensive squad for the Habs. I hate the damn puck going in off of other player's feet. And I hate the time change thing. I'm still a wreck because of it.
I do love that the Leafs are becoming very reliable in their ability to lose a game though. They just dropped a 2-1 decision to the Bolts.

Sigh...
Or maybe, just maybe, good ol' Thomas will be the floppy seive he's known to be on Thursday.
But seriously? Even the Thrashers are part of that mysterious League. We need to find these players! Players that protect their goalie and block shots instead of watching the shots go by them.
So here's the trend for the year I guess: Jaro plays bad and wins, Price plays good and loses. Life sucks. How's Taylor Hall doing these days?
I'm usually optimistic, but I won't bother looking for positives today. I'm fed up with this defense. I know we still miss Markov and O'Byrne, but still... And I don't like to blame individual players, but Bergeron is simply awful. Is there still anyone wondering why he had no contract at the start of the season? Ugh.
This game against the Bruins looks like it's going to be just another slap in the face. I don't think I'll bother watching.
Alright, sorry about all the negativity, but just as your title says, that sucked.
Although I missed alot of the game last night... I saw a little less then half.... a couple of things stood out for me.
1. I agree with Grrrreg... Bergeron is not a good defensive player at all. I've seen numerous mistakes since he's been in the lineup and some of these mistakes have cost the team goals.
Ryan O'Byrne can't come back quick enough.. I don't know what to make of our D. Of course, we have 3 injuries to our top 6 now.
2. I don't think it really matters who's in net when the team plays like this.. when there are so many turn overs. It just so happens Jaro is on the winning side more often.
But it's not a situation where either one of our talented young goaltenders can really have success.
In the last 4 games... we've allowed 6,3,4 and 5 goals respectively. Several due to turn overs.
There was about a week or a bit more where it seemed they cleaned some of that up a bit....
I'm always a "glass half full guy".. always look for the positive. But these defensive mistakes are killing us.
38 shots on goal last night. 4 goals scored. That's a positive.
BUT... turn overs + 5 goals allowed..... ouch.
Number31 - Taylor Hall has had a great start to his season D: We need Dmen though! =/
Grrreg - I can be way more negative than you :D You know what I'm afraid of though? O'Byrne had a great pre-season but I'm afraid that he's going to come back and not show all of that great stuff he was doing. That's my biggest fear that we're looking at him to solve our defensive issues when really, he can't. Even if he was the best Dman out there, ONE guy can't solve our problems...
Yves - I agree that it doesn't matter who's in nets. Jaro was fortunate in that he was in nets for the stretch of games against lousy opponents in which the Habs also cleaned up their defense. I don't think Jaro would have won last night if the defense had played the same way. It's really a sad situation for both goalies....
You're right about O'Byrne. I was thinking about it too. I hope he'll play like the early 2009-10 O'Byrne, and not the 2008-09 O'Byrne!
I thought he was a Dman... LOL what do I know. Maybe we can nab Stich...
Grrreg - We need the good O'Byrne to show up *nods*
Number31 - the only reason why I know he's not a Dman is because I saw the OHL had something about him scoring a pile of goals. He was a scoring machine in the first year and last year he had a pile coupled with even more assists. Parents need to get their kids to play defense so we can draft some star defenseman at some point :D
Stich would be nice! There has to be some quality defense dudes out there for us to draft next year... *goes to scour the CHL*
